Sources
Carrier register - FMCSA Motor Carrier Census (datahub.transportation.gov, dataset kjg3-diqy), read 2026-10-13. Fields used: legal name, USDOT number, physical street
address and city, telephone, number of power units, number of drivers, date of the last MCS-150 filing.
City facts - US Census 2020 population figures, municipal and county boundaries, road networks and
historical notes from public reference sources.
What the data cannot tell you
Fleet and driver counts are self-reported. A carrier that has not filed recently may be larger or smaller than
its record says. Outliers and obvious keying errors were excluded, but the numbers are still the company's own.
A USDOT number is not a household-goods licence. It shows the company is registered as a motor carrier. For
moving household goods in California a CPUC permit is also required - ask for it and check it.
A stale MCS-150 date is not proof of anything. It is a hygiene signal: either the company stopped filing, or its
paperwork is behind.
No quality judgement is made here. This is a register, not a rating. Crew quality, care with furniture and
punctuality do not appear in federal data at all.
Selection and ordering
Companies are included if they are registered at a physical address inside one of the 24 cities covered and their
registered name indicates household or general moving. Carriers whose registered name indicates freight, auto
transport, hauling or junk removal are excluded, as are records whose self-reported fleet count is implausible.
On each city page, carriers based in that city come first, then the largest registered carriers elsewhere in the same
county, ordered by fleet size.
Corrections
If you are a carrier and a detail here is wrong, the fastest fix is to update your MCS-150 with the FMCSA - this site
mirrors that register. A corrections contact must be added before launch.
